SUB BRANCH REPORT
E-mail – SUBS@ROOTYHILLRSL.com.au
President: S. Plunkett, Treasurer: S. Gibbs, Hon. Secretary: Alf Davey

G’Day Everyone,

February was the beginning of a busy couple of months for the Sub Branch, beginning with the 73rd Annual General Meeting. From the President, congratulations (or commiserations) to all elected Officer Bearers. It is sure to be an interesting year.

April is a busy month for all Sub Branch members. It is important to catch up with cobbers and shipmates to spin the odd yarn or two, remember those who have left our ranks and importantly, to those who paid the ultimate sacrifice for our country.

The Hon Secretary is taking names of volunteers to sell ANZAC Day Badges within the Club and also at Mt Druitt and Rooty Hill Railway stations. Maximum support for this important activity ensures the burden of selling the badges does not just fall on one or two members.

The men’s smoko will be held on Friday 16th April 2010. Doors open at 7pm for a 7.30pm start. Tickets will be $25 per person which includes a fantastic, filling dinner including prawns and oysters and a fantastic show is promised. I know I enjoy this event every year with the bonus of catching up with old cobbers.

The ANZAC Sunday March and Service is on Sunday 18th April 2010, commencing at 2.30pm. Step off is near the junction of Sherbrooke Street and Rooty Hill Road Nth.

There will also be a bus for the veterans who wish to partake in the march but are physically unable to participate. It will follow the Sub Branch on its route to the Tony Green Memorial in front of the Club. We hope that the weather holds off this year round.

Concluding the service, there will be light refreshments for all and goody bags for the children. This day is for the families and friends of veterans as well as the general community to share the experience that we diggers have on ANZAC Day. It is the 95th Anniversary of the ANZAC landings.

Lest we Forget.

To cap off the month, the Sub Branch’s largest commemorative service of the year is the ANZAC Day Dawn Service. Form up point is on the corners of Minchinbury and Reynell Streets and finishes at the memorial at Pine Grove.

Stand-To is at 5am. Attendance at the Dawn Service is necessary to gain admittance to the Club for breakfast.

The Club will have a bus for Sub Branch members to attend the city march later on in the morning. I will be including some snippets
of history at the conclusion of each monthly meeting, so for those out there who have an abundant amount of factual history feel free to get in contact with me.

Till next month, it’s your shout...

Sean Plunkett
President / Publicity Officer
